STATUETTE OF A WOMAN, ONE OF TWO

Creator(s): Meissen Porcelain Manufactory (Manufacturer)

On view in: Marjorie Post's Bedroom Hall

About this object

The statuette represents a woman. She could represent summer from a set of seasons, or bread from a pair representing bread and wine. She is tall and thin. She is nude except for a flowing drapery which is white with scattered flowers, and lined with mauve pink. On her head is a band of white stalks. A bunch of wheat stalks is cradled in her raised right arm, and is tied with a sickle. In her left hand are some short wheat stalks, below which is a tall white rococo vase topped by green leaves. This supports the figure which stands on a high rococo base. The base is decorated with applied scattered leaves, blue flowers, a cabbage and a melon.
