About this object

These ten "Queen's Beasts" were designed for the Coronation of Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953 by Mr. James Woodford, O.B.E. and were set up at the annex at Westminster Abbey. The Yale is silver with gold spots. He has a gold man, tufts, hoofs, horns and tusks. He holds a divided white and blue shield bearing a crowned portcullis.
