About this object

This style of cup and saucer had been produced at the Verbilki factory (and other factories once belonging to the M.S. Kuznetsov group) since the late ninteenth century. The wide, deep saucers are decorated in a warm, tortoise-shell brown that gradually fades to a warm tan near the outer edge of the saucer. The saucers are decorated with the same loosely drawn pattern of pale purple flowers ornamented with dots of thick white enamel that appears on the exterior of the cups. These flowers are set within thin curling vines rendered in brown and occasional groups of bright green leaves and white flowers or seed pods. The outer rim of the saucer is ornamented with a gilt band.
