About this object
On the surface of the inkstand, a group of seven Uzbek men and women, one of whom holds a child, discuss the draft of a new constitution which the central figure holds in his lap. On the far left is seated a bearded older man in a flowered skullca p holding a cup of tea in one hand and a text in the other. Next to him is another bearded older man who thoughtfully strokes his chin with one hand. A text with several illegible lines lies on the ground before him. Next is a young woman with her hair in traditional braids wearing a long, patterned yellow tunic over red pants. She wears a red neckscarf suggesting she is a member of the Young Pioneers. She is taking notes with a blue pen. In the center is a young man wearing a simple, gray, western-style outfit, pants tucked into his boots. He holds a book and a newspaper on which is visible the phrase "QZIL OZBEKISTAN." He is seated on a stool. To the right of the central is a young man in a white turban with shirt and pants painted to resemble distinctive patterns of Uzbek silk. He gestures with both hands to the kerchief-wearing young woman. Next to him is a woman in a purple tunic with a yellow robe. She holds a baby in her lap and touches the knee of the turban-wearing man as if to make a point. The group is completed by a young man, seemingly an adolescent, in striped robes who gestures with the papers in his hand. Cups of tea sit on the ground in front of two of the figures and a plate of pancakes lies on the ground in front of the central figure. Two platters of fruit conceal the inkpots. The stand is painted to resemble a patterned carpet.
