About this object

Circular main section has places for ink, sand and quill pen. Upper edge is engraved with palmettes, sides have four panels each with four danicng women in low relief. Flaring lower egde has various motifs in low relief, griffins, altars, etc. Feet simulate winged lion's feet. Cover has a cupid seated on a rock with an engraved ground. There is a hole for the pen. Behind the cupid rises a branch ending in a scroll from which a bell hangs. Bell has a pattern of acanthus leaves and palmettes in relief.
