About this object

On cover in niello against a gold stippled ground is a view of Falconet's Monument to Peter the Great in St. Petersburg. On the underside is a medallion framed with a laurel garland set against a background of vertical stripes. Within the medallion is a scene of two large ships approaching a city. The sides are decorated with niello stripes and a cluster of hunting trophies in the center.
