About this object

The chalice is gilded all over. The cup is engraved with rosettes alternating with ovals engraved with figures of: 1. Christ standing and blessing (inscribed), 2. St. John the Baptist holding a scroll (inscribed: [transcription]), 3. the cross with the lance and sponge (inscribed: [transcription]) and 4. the Mother of God in the attitude of prayer (inscribed: [transcription]). Between these medallions the following is inscribed in Russian: "Accept the Body of Christ; taste of the Immortal Source." The central portion is a sheaf of wheat design. The base is circular at the bottom with a leaf design repeated while above it is four-sided, each side being engraved with a medallion containing instruments of the Passion.
