About this object

Russian silver two-handled bowl on square base. The upper portion of bowl is decorated with a Neoclassical frieze of a reclining Grecian woman pouring libation to a bowl. She is flanked by designs of lyres surrounded by acanthus and flowering wines. Lip is gadrooned. Handles in form of snakes ‘bite’ the lip to form attachment. Bowl rests on a vase made to resemble three pairs of feet. Square base at outer edge bordered with frieze of acorns and oak leaves. On the underside of the base is a screw-and-nut attachment.
