About this object

The shape is more elaborate than is usual in Russian silver of the 18th century. The lower part is thinner in the middle, bulging out at the top and rests on three ball feet. Around the lower and upper section are triangular lobate sections going in reverse directions, each decorated with elaborate baroque patterns, the lower ones pointing upwards, those around the top section pointing downwards. The baroque motifs are in silver against a dotted background. In between the lobate sections the background is gilded. The cover has a similar baroque design on circular lobate sections. On the top of the cover is the double headed eagle with crown, sceptre and globe.
