About this object

The box is oval and has a hinged lid. In the center of the cover is an upright oval medallion containing the scene of the "Sacrifice of Isaac" in painted enamel. It is framed by a narrow band of white enamel with a small design. The cover, sides, and bottom are bordered by a band of laurel leaves in chased gold. The remaining areas on the cover, the bottom, and four panels on the sides are covered with translucent pink enamel with dark leafy branches over a wavy guilloché ground. The medallion shows Abraham to the right standing by the altar in the center. Isaac is to the left with two angels above him.
