About this object

The shape of the carnet is almost rectangular. The top portion lifts up to reveal a gold pencil and three ivory leaves. On the front near the top is the word "Souvenir" in script outlined in diamonds and on the back "d'amitié". The front has an oval medallion enclosing a scene in painted enamel with a soldier in antique garb taking leave of his wife while a nurse stands at the left holding their baby. This scene is the Interview of Hector and Andromache. On the back is an interlaced monogram in gold against translucent opalescent enamel. The ground is in dark blue enamel with an allover pattern in white with stripes of wavy lines interspersed with circles of dots. All the areas are framed with sprays of flowers, leaves, and berries, in chased gold, enameled white, green, and red, respectively, with intermittent white dots, all on sablé gold.
