About this object
An oval hinged box. The cover has an oval medallion containing the painted enamel figures of Cupid and Psyche "en camaieu" and a reclining putto offering them a spray of flowers. The whole is surrounded by a reddish drapery. Framing the medallion is a band of chased gold bellfowers with a ribbon bow at top and bottom of the box is a dark blue enamel over engine-turned stripes. The rim of the cover, the top and the bottom and four uprights of the sides, and the bottom are banded by a chased gold floral vine. There is a painted enamel medallion in the bottom which contains an altar of love with two doves, and each four shaped painted enamel panels on the sides contains a scene with an amorous couple in a landscape.
