About this object

The holder is made from gold, and is engraved and enameled in royal blue. It is in the shape of an arm and a hand in armor, engraved in every detail. The royal blue portions of the steel are enameled. At the shoulder end is an agate seal engraved with two coats-of-arms and a crown of Imperial Russia and Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The hand grasps a baton which also has seals at either end. One end has an agate seal that is engraved with a monogram and four crowns. The other end of the baton has an agate seal that is engraved with a monogram that encircles a crown. The crowned monogram CM stands for Grand Duchess Catherine Mikhailovna (Ekaterina Mikhailovna) who married the Duke Georg August of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 1851.
