About this object

Service made for the imperial yacht Derzhava is suitably decorated with nautical motifs of chains, ropes, and anchors rendered in gold with black outlines on a green, blue, and white ground. Imperial orbs, crowned A II in Old Slavonic form for Alexander II, and double-headed eagles formed by interwoven ropes enliven pieces from this service. The decanter, designed in the style of a Turkish decanter, has a broad, bulbous-shaped bowl and a high, narrow neck. Chains and ropes are interwoven in a manner reminiscent of Old Russian strapwork to form two imperial double-headed border. Other designs include A II monogram on one side, and imperial orb with an anchor on the other side both in cartouches created by ropes. On a clear ground these motifs are painted in gold, green and blue.
